MEC Madala Masuku congratulates municipalities for clean audit outcomes in 2009/10 financial year

The Mpumalanga Provincial Government prides itself in that out of the seven municipalities that obtained clean audits of the 283 municipalities in the country three of them are from Mpumalanga. Victor Khanye and Steve Tshwete Local Municipalities and Ehlanzeni District Municipality are part of only seven municipalities throughout the country who have received clean audits. This represents 43% of the municipalities that have achieved clean audits coming from Mpumalanga.

MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Madala Masuku has congratulated the three municipalities in the province who have received clean audits in the 2009/10 financial year. "The good performance by our municipalities indicates that the province is on course to meeting the target of operation clean audit 2014. Such good performance can be attributed to paying special attention to good financial management practises and addressing challenges raised by the Auditor General in previous financial statements. We will be sharing these best lessons with our other municipalities" said Masuku.

MEC Masuku has further congratulated the other municipalities who achieved unqualified reports. "As a province we are proud of the sound financial management practises of these municipalities. This means that the municipalities spent public funds as they were supposed to. Accountability and good governance remain the cornerstones of our democratic local government. Improved financial management will result in improved service delivery, good governance and accountability" said Masuku. He added that the good working relations between the Auditor-General, Provincial Treasury and the department in supporting municipalities is beginning to yield positive results.

MEC Masuku further stated that the province will be rolling out a programme to support those municipalities that have received disclaimers and qualified reports.
