The MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Madala Masuku has condemned the acts of public disruption that happened in the areas of Msogwaba and Daantjie in the Mbombela Local Municipality.
MEC Masuku says whilst government respects individual’s right to voice their concerns through protests, however such protests should be within the ambit of the law.
MEC Masuku has stated that government acknowledges that there is a water problem facing these communities and the broader Nsikazi South and it is working closely with the municipality to address the problems urgently. “We apologise to the affected communities for the inconvenience caused. As an interim measure we have provided water tankers, jojo tanks and mobile package plants to alleviate the water problem faced by the affected communities, whilst we deal with the long-term intervention of replacing the broken pumps” said Masuku. He further added that the department has dispatched some officials in the department to assist the municipality deal with the water problems.
MEC Masuku further encouraged the community leaders and the community to engage in dialogue to resolve any dispute, and that they must work with government to deal with the water problem.
MEC Masuku has also reiterated that Government will not tolerate any acts of violence and destruction to property. The Department appeals for restraint and calm from all the people of Daantjie and Msogwaba.
