Media statement on service delivery
‘We still remain concerned that it should not take an MEC to visit and interact with communities first, that service delivery must occur at all times’, said MEC Jack.
As part of our departmental approach in combating crime at all times and fronts, the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Mr Mac Jack together with the South African Police Service Top management in the province continue to engage with communities and not necessarily at a time when problem arises, but aimed at closing gaps between the law enforcement agencies and our communities. This will assist in not allowing criminals to occupy any space in our livelihood. Putting this to practice, the MEC has held mass meeting already in areas such as Port Nolloth and Mier.
The main objective of MEC Mac Jack visits to communities is basically to listen and interact with community members so as to afford them an opportunity to raise their fears, concerns, aspirations and most importantly as to how they would like to be policed by all law enforcement agencies and to also provide immediate responses as part of maintaining transparency and accountability at all times, reflecting on the government of the people, for the people and by the people.
‘While we are satisfied with how the festive season went by in as far as safety is concerned in our province, we however continue to work tirelessly on promoting our safety awareness activities in order for us to reclaim our public spaces in all of our communities, because the task ahead of us is still massive. However, we believe that such successes will only serve to motivate our law enforcement agencies to work even harder in squeezing crime to zero this time around,’ MEC Mac Jack said.
MEC Mac Jack also acknowledge the fact that the South African Police Service in our province have always had their hands full in dealing with extraordinary challenges – be it community criminal activity, family violence or political confrontation and also urge them to continue doing the same so leading up to the forth coming South African National General Elections.
The MEC is calling upon for the total involvement of our communities , Community Policing Forum’s, Neighbourhood Watches, Non-Governmental Organisations, business sector and other role players to continue implementing a multi-pronged approach in the fight against crime as part of strengthening community-police relations.
