Northern Cape MEC for transport to join law enforcement operations ahead of Easter Weekend Period

The Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison Mr Lebogang Motlhaping will join law enforcement operations in the Province ahead of the Easter Period with the aim of driving a message of responsible road usage for everyone to Arrive Alive.

Easter time is a critical period that is characterised by high traffic volumes and remains high on the Province's agenda for highly intensified operations to work towards ensuring everyone's safety on the roads. During this period, it is expected that travellers will criss-cross the country and the Province in numbers for various reasons such as pilgrimages, festivals and vacations.

MEC Motlhaping will this week join traffic officers and law enforcement agencies at traffic law enforcement operations, ahead of the Easter long weekend.

He indicated that despite the intensified operations that will unfold across the Province, the responsibility lies on all road users to be responsible road users. He said, it is critical that we take cognisance of the rules of the road and consider other road users.

He added that for everyone to Arrive Alive, we all needed to remember that "Road Safety is Everyone's Responsibility".

"We have to take personal responsibility for our own safety, our passengers, pedestrians and all other road users - especially our children we should love enough to buckle up on all journeys," said MEC Motlhaping.

He indicated it was critical for people to plan ahead for all their journeys and remember to take cognisance of safety tips at all times.

Remember the following tips when you travel:

  • Check the road worthiness of your vehicle before embarking on any journey,
  • Plan your trips and rest every 2hours,
  • Be patient and drive within the speed limit,
  • Do not drive fatigued or drink and drive,
  • Be mindful of pedestrians and also our traffic officials embarking on Law Enforcement Operations to ensure everyone's safety on the roads.

Let us all be safe, enjoy easter and remember to "Arrive Alive".
