Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Nkosiphendule Kolisile appointed eight members of the Gauteng Gambling Board on 5 April 2013.
Advocate Bally Chuene and Dr Sydney Fholisani Mufumadi have been appointed as Board Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson respectively. Additional members of the Board include Advocate Lentswe Mokgatle, Ms Shaila Hari, Franscina Jocoba van der Westhuizen, Mr Sipho Luyolo Majombozi, Zola Majavu and Jonny Sexwale.
The appointments are in line with the prescripts of the Gauteng Gambling Act (1995) and reflect a diversity of experienced individuals with a broad range of expertise in the legal, financial, labour and socio-economic development fields. The Board will be immediately faced with the tasks to review the entity’s management structure, finalise the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer as well as speedily attend to license applications.
In line with the commitment to achieve a clean audit by 2014, the Board is expected to expedite and finalise the forensic audit into the operations and management of the entity by the end of April 2013. The Gauteng Gambling Board has since inception, with the exception of the 2011/12 financial year, received clean audits. The Department of Economic Development is committed to ensuring that the entity reclaims its glory as a champion of sound financial management and good corporate governance.
