MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi on arrest of North West official over rhino horn trafficking

North West MEC for Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, Ms Kenetswe Mosenogi has noted the arrest of one of the departmental official on Thursday, 07 October 2021 and later another suspect on the same charges relating to illegal Rhino horn trade.

This has been a long pending case which has been under investigation for some time, and today we hail the joint tireless efforts led by the Green Scorpions of the National department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism & the Northern Cape Department of Environment and Nature Conservation as well as the Hawks for a final breakthrough on this matter.

MEC Mosenogi further reiterated that there will be no stone left unturned regarding immoral officers who are found to be involved or in accomplice to any crimes, and the department has no room to harbor criminals.

“Tourism backbone is anchored around biodiversity which we must quantify in economic terms.   We call upon all communities to always be vigilant and corporate with law enforcement by reporting any illegal activities which they suspect to stop the attack on our endangered species and preserve them for future generations”, said MEC Mosenogi.

The Department will continue with its internal disciplinary process on the alleged case.
