MEC Kegakilwe talks service delivery on Mandela Day in Bloemhof

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mothibedi Kegakilwe yesterday called on the community of Boitumelong near Bloemhof in the Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality to work with their councillors and community development workers in identifying destitute families in their areas.

This, MEC Kegakilwe said during his visit to the area as part of his 67 minutes contribution to the United Nation’s International Mandela Day campaign. He said it was unfortunate that there were families still living under appalling conditions.“Mandela Day is all about giving back to those who are less fortunate in order to change their living condition. This is the year of service delivery and it is only when we work together that we can do more,” he said.

MEC Kegakilwe appealed to the community to put to good use service delivery points in their district and local municipalities, adding that community members must strive to emulate and honour former President Nelson Mandela by volunteering their services to communities in need. “Let us stand up and work for our communities, volunteering our time and donating items that we no longer use,” he said.

Accompanied by the Mayor of the Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality Moeder Makodi and Councillor Kgalalelo Sereko of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, MEC Kegakilwe donated several household items including a fridge, an electric and gas stove, blankets as well as mattresses before assisting with fixing the fence around the centre.
