North West MEC for Health and Social Development, Rebecca Kasienyane has commended North West public doctors for not taking part in the unprotected strike and for remaining committed to their oath.
"I must commend our doctors for their commitment to deliver quality health services to all the people of our province and allowing the bargaining process to take its part. I have faith in all parties that are represented in the bargaining council.
The health professionals' patience, professionalism and commitment to their oath are an inspiration. I refuse to imagine what hospitals would be like without health professionals. We really need their skills.
Our hospitals are fully operational in the North West and all doctors have reported to their respective work stations. It is work in progress" says Kasienyane.
The MEC was reacting to ongoing strike in other provinces despite negotiations to resolve the remuneration issues and general working conditions of doctors, dentists, pharmacists and emergency care workers taking place in the bargaining council. Doctors are represented in the bargaining council by the South African Medical Association (SAMA).
