MEC Jacob Mamabolo on the Soshanguve fatal crash

MEC Mamabolo calls for more vigilance on the roads after Soshanguve fatal crash

Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Road Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo has reiterated his call for motorists to exercise vigilance on the roads following a fatal road crash that claimed four lives and left one person critically injured in Soshanguve on Friday morning.

According to emergency officials, a bus and two light motor vehicles were involved in the crash.

MEC Mamabolo said that while the exact causes of the incident are still being investigated, motorists are urged to be vigilant and be alert at all times whilst driving, especially in bad weather conditions.

"It is totally unacceptable that our roads continue to claim lives like this, with an average of eight deaths per day. Driver behaviour and attitude need to change if we are to reduce carnage on our roads”.

"Based on our engagements with transport stakeholders in the past seven months, it is clear that something is wrong with road users’ attitude and behaviour on the roads. This needs to change, road safety begins with you," Mamabolo pleaded.

The MEC extended condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He further called on law enforcement officials to investigate the root causes of the accident.
