MEC Jacob Mamabolo inspects fire damage in Msawawa informal settlement

MEC in Msawawa (Kya Sands) to inspect fire damage and provide support and relief assistance to affected families

Gauteng COGTA and Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo and City of Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Sello Lemao are currently visiting Msawawa informal settlement next to Kya Sands where fire destroyed shacks this afternoon. The aim of the visit is to assess the damage caused and to coordinate relief efforts in the area.

The Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management is working the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) to bring relief to the residents of Msawawa who lost their homes following fire this afternoon.
It can be confirmed that 25 shacks have been destroyed and the number will increase and the final count will be known once the fire has been completely put out.

“We have been saddened by this destruction and our hearts go out to the affected families. We are working with the City of Johannesburg to start with relief assistance which will include food, blankets, clothes and temporary shelter”, said MEC Jacob Mamabolo.

MEC Mamabolo is appealing to members of the public to join the relief programme and donate to assist the needy families who have lost their homes.
