MEC relieved that no explosives device was found in department building following a bomb scare this morning
Life has returned to normality at the Johannesburg regional office of the Department of Human Settlements after the bomb squad of the SAPS cleared the building following a bomb scare this morning. Floors 14 to 18, which are occupied by the Human Settlements Department, were thoroughly checked including using sniffer dogs and after this laborious exercise no device was found and the building was declared bomb-free.
“I am pleased that the threat has been eliminated and that none of our staff members were harmed and that the building is now a safe environment to resume work . Our staff members are back in the building and we must condemn this cowardly act that bordered on irresponsibility and mischievousness. Our daily operations were severely disrupted and our staff were put under unnecessary stress and panic because of this scare”, said Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo.
Mamabolo has asked the police to fast-track the investigations to find out who the perpetrator is and that this culprit must face the full might of the law.
