MEC Ismail Vadi conducts site inspection of Vereeniging Taxi Rank construction project

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, conducted site inspection of the Vereeniging Taxi Rank construction project in Sedibeng.

Upon inspection, Vadi expressed his satisfaction with the current construction progress following delays that negatively impacted the completion of the project.

“Following the site inspection of the intermodal facility project, I am hopeful that construction can be completed this year. There is definitely good progress being made,” Vadi said.

The construction project was launched in 2014 as part of a joint initiative with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and the Sedibeng and Emfuleni municipalities to upgrade the Vereeniging Station precinct.

Once completed, the facility is envisioned to accommodate more than 600 taxis and some busses.

Vadi reiterated that the department remains committed to building a credible and modern public transport system in the province.

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Provincial Government this week came out in support of the cash-strapped Emfuleni municipality and intervened in collecting refuse and repairing potholes in Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and townships in the Vaal.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Vadi, together with several other MECs, rolled up their sleeves and helped pick up garbage bags in Evaton and patched potholes in Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and Three Rivers.
