MEC Ismail Vadi condemns brutal killing of Taxify driver

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the brutal killing of another Taxify driver, Moipolai Sekati, in Snake Park, Sowe.

Apparently, Sekati was fatally shot on Wednesday night. The motive for the killing is unknown and police are investigating the matter.

“Any rational person will condemn this senseless and brutal killing of a taxi driver. Although the motive for the murder is not known at this stage, I am deeply saddened at this senseless loss of life of an innocent person,” said Vadi.

Vadi further expressed his sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the late Mr Sekati.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased during this time of grief. As the Department we are deeply saddened by this criminal act that has occurred so soon after the National Assembly has adopted the National Land Transport Act Amendment Bill, which seeks to regulate the provision of electronic hailing services to the public,” said Vadi.

The amendment Bill provides for the licensing of e-hailing services as a means of public transport.

It allows for the hire of a car by e-hailing while roaming or at a rank, and which is equipped with an electronic technology-enabled application to measure travel distance and cost.

Vadi has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate this crime and urged those that might have information to come forward and assist the police.
