MEC Vadi applauds law enforcement officials' swift response in Atteridgeville
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, has applauded the law enforcement officials' for their swift response in dealing with the taxi-related violence that took place in Atteridgeville on Tuesday.
Taxi drivers in the area are said to have barricaded several roads in the City of Tshwane where several shots were fired during the protest.
A joint effort by the SAPS, RTMC, Tshwane Metro Police as well as the Gauteng Traffic Police led to the arrest of several people allegedly linked to the shootings.
“ Such brazen acts of lawlessness should be condemned in the strongest possible terms as they do not only cause panic and fear but innocent lives are lost.
"I would like to applaud law enforcement officials for their swift actions in apprehending the suspects. Law enforcement officials should continue to do whatever is necessary to protect the lives of commuters and taxi drivers. Lawlessness and violence should never be allowed,” said Vadi.
MEC once again reiterated his call also for taxi associations and drivers to find non-violent solutions to their internal challenges without endangering the lives of commuters and their members.
