Limpopo MEC for Education Ishmael Kgetjepe’s message: World Teachers Day
I would like to take this opportunity to join the world in wishing our teachers in Limpopo, who are our most valued assets, a happy teacher’s day. Our teachers are our pride and joy in our efforts to expand education in this province. On a day when the whole world appreciates the good work done by teachers, I would like to impress on our teachers that teaching is not just another profession. It is a responsibility to guide, nurture and enlighten. We are thrilled that you have been doing exactly that year in and year out against all odds. We appreciate massively the good work that you get done even under the most stressful and impossible conditions.
We once again give respect to our teachers who are charged with an immense responsibility of empowering young minds and guiding thousands of learners into building blocks of our society. I am confident that with the high level of professional commitment and hard work that our teachers exert in this province to improve quality of education; more impressive results shall be achieved. We all know that there is a lot more work that needs to be done, and we must brace ourselves to do more, especially in the area of quality teaching and learning.
I would like to stress on this day, the importance of having quality teachers in sufficient numbers in order to achieve quality education in our province. It is rightly said that the quality of education is closely tied with the quality of its teachers. We know that in the process of teaching and learning, a teacher occupies an irreplaceable position. We want to say to our teachers we shall be working with them to give due emphasis to the overall of their well-being beginning with their training, deployment, career development, welfare and retirement. Unless we tackle teacher issues in such a comprehensive manner, we may not achieve our desired goal of the provision of quality education in the province. We are saying a teacher who is not properly trained, productively deployed, does not have opportunities for career development , is not provided with ongoing professional support, and whose welfare is not taken care of, cannot be committed professional who can bring about marked improvement in the learning of our learners.
Once more we thank you for your sterling innings.
Happy Teachers Day
Working together we can do more in providing quality education.
