Business cannot be as usual at Education. Service delivery will be tweaked. These are the words of Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe, the newly appointed Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Limpopo Department of Education when addressing Executive Management Committee (EMC) of the department this morning.
The MEC indicated that his main business in the Department is to make sure schools function in a better way. This he said, need man and women who have vision and passion to serve the communities. He urged the EMC to make sure they manage in a way that produces good results. The MEC also indicated a concern that the Province does not have enough Mathematics and Science teachers. Also of concern was that up and coming graduates seem to have lost interest in teaching. “Maybe education needs to be marketed and branded as one of key fields by the whole country,” the MEC added.
Some of the areas identified to be improved in the meeting were:
- infrastructure development
- provision of teachers
- scholar transport
- distribution of learning material
The MEC indicated that he will have interactions with all educational stakeholders to share their milieus. At the end of the meeting, the MEC also visited some sections to greet employees at their work stations.
