The MEC committed to improve service delivery in education
The Citizens of Limpopo will never forgive us if we fail to deliver but return funds intended for service delivery back to National Treasury. These are the words of the Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Education, Hon. Ishmael Kgetjepe. Ntate Kgetjepe was addressing senior management team of the department during their first quarter strategic review session in Polokwane yesterday.
The MEC indicated that the department should speed up service delivery. He added that the Province need people who are dedicated to serve the nation with excellence and that he does not want any service delivery fund to be returned just because of poor planning. “You cannot fail to plan and then return funds while the Province is experiencing a lot of challenges in education sector. It just does not make any logical sense” He emphasised.
It was reported in this gathering that the Province is ready for the re-opening of schools on the 20 July 2015. Departmental official will also be visiting schools on this day to monitor and evaluate the processes. Ntate Kgetjepe is expecting all to go well when schools re-open on Monday. Also visiting the Province is the Portfolio Committee on Education which will visit some schools in Capricorn and Mopani districts.
In terms of service delivery, already in this quarter, 25 Public Ordinary Schools received sanitary facilities and await certificates of completion while 228 are still under construction. There are 70 completed classrooms in different areas while 359 are under construction. There are five new schools that are under construction. To address water challenges in schools, the department has drilled more than 100 bore holes in different schools.
The department is also joining the rest of the world in celebrating the life of the former President of South Africa, Ntate Nelson Mandela. Top management of the department will amongst others, do cleaning and painting at Boetse Secondary School in Moletji area starting from 9am.
