After many challenges around this project, I am happy with the progress being made on this facility. I want to commend all parties involved in the project.
Today heralds an end of an era for this project. We are entering a new era of certainty and hope for the communities of Zola, Jabulani, Zondi and Emndeni (Zojazem Zone). The surrounding communities of Moletsane, Tladi and Naledi (Motlana Zone) will also be relieved to hear that the project is finally nearing completion.
This project alone has created 891 jobs to date, 429 of which benefitted young people, including 182 women. All the beneficiaries have been recruited from the Zola and Jabulani community.
The Jabulani hospital will have 300 Beds, plus an adjacent Gateway Clinic that is already operating and receiving patients. It offers services such as general consulting, comprehensive primary health care, mental health, antenatal services as well as HIV and Aids consulting.
The provision of health and education infrastructure whilst creating jobs in the process has become the cornerstone of our approach. The Jabulani Hospital is another landmark building, but more importantly this is another service delivery project of the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Project. It is one of the many infrastructure projects that we are delivering to our people on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government.
Later today we will be delivering our department’s budget vote at the Legislature, where we will be outlining further infrastructure delivery projects. Our presentation will speak to the progress we have made since our last budget speech. It will also unveil the plans to deliver more infrastructure services such as this one.
DID is also busy with the construction of the June 16 Youth Institute a few yards away in Central Western Jabavu, opposite Morris Isaacson High School.
We have completed the construction of six new schools during the 2011/12 financial year. We are also busy with the construction of the Boipatong Memorial and Youth Centre as well as the Magaliesburg Boarding Facilities to the tune of R115 million.
In 2011 we handed over the newly built State-of-the-Art Germiston Hospital. We are also completing the all new Natalspruit Hospital.
