"In order for sport, arts and culture programmes to impact on communities around the province, Mmabana and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture must play a leading role in realising this," said MEC Hlomane Chauke.
Chauke said this subsequent to a meeting held with Mmabana Sport, Arts and Culture Foundation senior management team, today, 19 January 2011. Amongst his resolutions and vision, the MEC directed that a very strong relationship be forged between the department and Mmabana in ensuring visible sport, arts and culture services to communities around the province.
As for Mmabana infrastructure expanding to the whole province, the MEC has resolved that processes of building Mmabana Tlhabane be affected as soon as possible and in the interim have the Rustenburg Cultural Centre used in running the daily programmes of that institution. Furthermore, a plan on the expansion of Mmabana around the province must also be made available for implementation into the future.
Meanwhile, the MEC also emphasised that ‘no one is allowed to take the arts for granted, including government itself (government departments), including those at the foundation'.
The MEC also pronounced that Mmabana must come up with programmes as soon as possible before the end of the financial year for communities around as well as those for the opening of the Legislature.
On the other hand, as the term of the Mmabana board has lapsed, the MEC is calling for nominations of the board members from qualified public members to apply to serve in that board. The closing date of the nominations is 31 January 2011.
