Eastern Cape MEC of Human Settlements, Helen Sauls-August has re-appointed the members of the Rental Housing Tribunal for a new term with an additional two members with effect from 1 April 2015.
The main responsibility of the seven member Tribunal is to provide a free service to tenants and landlords to promote stability in the rental housing sector throughout the province. The Tribunal therefore facilitates, investigates, mediates and conducts hearings to resolve disputes. The members of the Tribunal are; Adv Tozama Mqobi (Chairperson), Mr Bendle, Adv. John Korkie, Mrs Nomalungelo Petela-Ngcanga, Mr Andile Badi, Ms Zanele Rosemary Semane and Mr David Murray.
The Rental Housing Tribunal has received 234 cases since 1 April 2014 and has, up to date, successfully resolved 186 cases between tenants and landlords.
Rental Housing Tribunal will also form part of the consumer protection drive and a platform to resolve disputes between tenants and landlords and raising awareness about the Rental Tribunal to the consumers during this financial year.
