MEC for Human Settlements, Safety and Liaison Helen Sauls-August has started a House a Family, Dress a School Child for financially distressed families in Antioch Junior Secondary School. On the launch of the campaign in Nqalweni village Mount Frere, 240 school children received school shirts, Socks and shoes donated by Human Settlements Staff including the MEC and her Core Staff.
House a Family, Dress A school Child Campaign is aimed at providing school uniforms and books to Human Settlements beneficiaries and creating a conducive environment for learning.
Background:
As her own contribution which emanating from the cabinet’s resolution stating that all MEC’s need to contribute in Educating future leaders of our country, MEC adopted Antioch Secondary School situated in the outskirts of Mount Frere as her project in assisting where the learners needed help.
Objectives:
- To provide School uniform for Impoverished learners, residing in our government RDP houses
- Encourage beneficiaries of houses to attend school
- To contribute to Back to School campaign
- To intergrate education of learners(beneficiaries) into Human Settlements.
Agenda:
Building materials and a classroom were also donated by Human Settlements stakeholders who have pledged to improve the condition of the school.
