The MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison Mr George Phadagi has the pleasure to officially announce the appointment of Major-General BM Ntlemeza as the acting Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner. Major-Gen Ntlemeza’s appointment is with effect from 1 October 2011 until such time as a permanent appointment is made.
Major-Gen Ntlemeza steps into the boots of Lt-Gen Amon Mashigo who was the Provincial Commissioner for Limpopo until he left the South African Police Service at the end of September after 34 years of sterling service which is going to be missed. Lt-Gen Mashigo leaves behind a province with the lowest crime statistics in the country.
We aim to maintain the status of Limpopo as the home of peace. We are confident that the current South African Police Service (SAPS) leadership has what it takes to roll back the tide of crime in the province.
Major-Gen Ntlemeza has been part of the SAPS leadership with Lt-Gen Mashigo that is credited with making Limpopo too hot and too small for criminals. We have full confidence and trust that he will ably steer the ship until a permanent appointment is made.
The people of Limpopo and visitors to our province need not panic or feel insecure. There will never be leaderlessness or uncertainty within SAPS in Limpopo as some section of the media may report. We have the situation firmly under control.
Short-listing for the permanent replacement has been done and interviews will be conducted in the middle of October. Bar unforeseen circumstances we hope to make an appointment by the beginning of either November or December.
This shows how serious we are in ensuring certainty within the ranks of the SAPS as certainty is crucial to our war against crime and criminals.
I urge all policemen and women, and all the people of Limpopo to lend their support to Major-Gen Ntlemeza in his new capacity as Acting Provincial Commissioner.
