MEC Gaoage Oageng performed sod-turning and introduces contractor for Road Z431 at Kgora Farmer Training Centre

MEC for Public Works and Roads, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi has officially performed sod-turning and introduced a contractor for Road Z431 at Kgora Farmer Training Centre. Upgrading of the 9km road from gravel to surface standard into the centre will be completed within twelve (12) months.

The road construction project follows constant engagements between the Department of Public Works and Roads; and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the province. Kgora Farmer Training Centre offers training to approximately thousand five hundred (1500) farmers over a financial year who are expected to commute daily to classes. It is also an important road as it is the only road accessible during floods and rainy seasons.

According to the MEC, “The R 63 814 464.56 million (VAT Incl.) road project will create 64 job opportunities, and 30% of the total value of the contract amount is set aside for SMME development. Employees will also receive accredited skills training which will lead to sustainable livelihoods long after the project has been completed”.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Infrastructure at Mahikeng Local Municipality, Cllr Legalatadi representing the Executive Mayor, Cllr Tshepiso Mphehlo encouraged the community to assist the government by taking responsibility and protecting infrastructure at all times. Kgosi Gabusang Shole and Kgosi Simon Malefo were in attendance and confirmed that the road is used by residents from surrounding villages.

“This road is part of over R646 million that we have allocated in the 2023/2024 financial year for implementing 13 new road projects; and as such the appointed contractor should make sure that people living with disabilities also benefit from opportunities brought by the project. We must collectively go all out to ensure benefit for all on government programmes and interventions” urged Molapisi.
