MEC expressed shock on pedestrians killed on the road

MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety and liaison has expressed concern over the number of pedestrians who were killed since the beginning of the Easter weekend. Thus far six people lost their lives on the road of the North West, and four of were pedestrians.

According to police, speeding and reckless driving are the main courses of the accidents. Three of the accidents where pedestrians were killed, were hit and runs, while the other one police allege that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. All four drivers are in police custody and were charged with culpable homicide.

Expressing her concern MEC Mohono, said that the plans for arrive alive campaign are progressing according to plan. She said that she was worried about  the increasing number of pedestrians killed on the road. “We must focus further and intensify road safety education, focusing on pedestrians. We cannot win our war of saving lives of drivers and passengers on our main road, and continue to loss pedestrians” said MEC Mohono.

She appealed to pedestrians to be extra cautious when traveling on or crossing the roads. “Wear bright clothes and make sure that you are visible all the time.  Also don’t drink and walk on our roads because you may become a victim” said the disturbed Mohono.
