MEC Dodovu calls for Sunrise park residents to exercise patience

In the wake of the recent community protests in Sunrise Park near Rustenburg, theo North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, China Dodovu has expressed his utter disappointment in the community for disregarding government’s efforts of working on finding a lasting solution to their problems.

The community of Sunrise Park has previously barricaded roads and burnt tyres in demanding amongst others low-cost houses, sanitation and water. They also demanded  that municipality should re-connect their electricity supply. This led to the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Richard Baloyi and the then MEC Paul Sebegoe establishing a task team constituted by national, provincial and local government officials and community representatives to work on addressing issues raised by the community.

“Whilst this effort is taking place, I want to appeal to the community to exercise patience and to desist from destroying public properties and disrupting the flow of traffic to innocent road users. I want to plead with the community to allow government processes to unfold and also request that for any enquiries on the developments, they must contact their community representatives who sit on the task team. I can assure the community out there that once the task team has completed its work, they (community) will be informed about the outcome”, said MEC Dodovu.
