MEC Desbo Mohono urges communities to blow the whistle on suspected drug dealers

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has urged communities to report activities of suspected drug dealers to the police in order to stamp the tide of drug proliferation and crime.

Mohono’s appeal follows a number of complaints raised during the Provincial Community Participation Outreach programme that was held in Morokweng in the Dr Segomotsi Ruth Mompati District over the weekend.

Most of parents who attended the meeting complained about their children’s involvement in drugs leading to unruly behavior.

“Those children are small fry; they need to come forth with information that will assist police to get to the kingpins who are the source of the drugs that are destroying the youth who are our future. We cannot afford to have an uncontrollable community more especially young people due to high rate of usage of drugs,” said Mohono.

She called on residents to report activities of suspected drug dealers to the police and further said she is confident that with support and cooperation of members of the public, the onslaught against the tide of drugs that destroy many young people would bring success.

The MEC encouraged active participation of the community in crime prevention efforts through their community policing forums in order to rid the community of the scourge of crime. She committed to follow-up on complains of slow and non-response of police to distress calls and alleged assault of some members of the community by police.

The Community Participation Outreach Programme is intended at providing communities with a platform to engage government about their experiences and concerns regarding accessibility of government services, programmes and service delivery.
