The North West MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono congratulated winners of the 2014 Tlokwe Tourism Awards, during a recent awards ceremony held at the Tlokwe Local Municipality. MEC Mohono hailed the city for recognising, and awarding product owners and role players within the Tourism industry.
Addressing guest attending the glittering awards ceremony held at the Madiba Banqueting Hall in Potchefstroom, MEC Mohono said that these awards are important because they do not only recognise the achievements of the Tourism Industry and its contribution to the economic prosperity of the North West Province, but also increase awareness in the community about the industry itself.
“Through this increased awareness the industry will grow and develop even further. I strongly believe that this fifth administration, more than any other has recognised the contribution and the strides that a viable tourist industry can make to the North West Province economy that has to grow by six percent. We are committed to the promotion and development of this sector and these awards are indicative of this commitment. The awards are also a celebration of efforts of people who chose a road that is less travelled because it has thorns”, said MEC Mohono.
MEC Mohono also pledged her department’s support in continuing to acknowledge and reward role players within the industry, who continue to make a special effort to help government achieve its mandate.
Kagiso Legobe the founder of KAY 2ZE GEE TOURS which won in the Tour Operator’s category said that the awards are a symbol of hard work and dedication. He said that winning reaffirms his philosophy that one needs to work hard in ensuring that the right packages are being sold to relevant clients.
“By winning this award, it simply means that I am doing the right thing in the right industry for the right people. I will forever treasure this moment. I’d also like to thank the provincial department of Tourism for the work that they have done for the tourism industry. They are only a year old but their impact is enormous. Credit must also be given to the Tlokwe City Council for the awards which recognises role players within the industry”, said Legobe.
