The North West MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono congratulated winners of the 21st South African Music Awards in Sun City on Sunday. MEC Mohono was speaking after the glamorous event which was attended by the who’s who of the South African Music industry. Mohono also emphasised her pride in artists who flew the North West Province flag high by winning in their respective categories.
The elated MEC Mohono could not hide her excitement when the young poet and the winner of SA’s Got Talent Botlhale Boikanyo won the Best Traditional Music album during the SAMA’s. MEC Mohono almost jumped of her sit when multiple music award winner Cassper Nyovest, won the Newcomer of the Year category through his recent album Tsholofelo. She also congratulated Bucie Nqwiliso who was born in the Northern Cape but grew up in Klerksdorp in the North West. She won the Female Artist of the Year through her album Princess of House.
According to MEC Mohono, the music industry is not just about entertainment. “The industry is in actual fact a melting pot of opportunities for a better life for our people. As government we have committed ourselves to using Tourism, culture and agriculture to overcome the economic and political barriers that continue to define the face of our province. We have therefore accepted the obligation to support the music industry that will contribute to a sustainable economic development,” said Mohono.
She said that the provincial government is humbled by the decision to host the event of such magnitude and her greatest wish is for the province to be the home of SAMA’s. “As the provincial government we will continue to support such endeavors and support the North West based artists. We shall through our sisters departments strive to unearth talent, and entertain South Africans within the province.
That will escalate our venture to grow our economy through the Agriculture, Culture and Tourism” she said.MEC Mohono also saluted Jabulani “HHP” Tsambo for his brilliance in hosting the show that was watched live by millions of South Africans on SABC Television.
