Gauteng MEC for Education, Barbara Creecy, has visited the family of the late John Scrooby on Friday to pass condolences to the family on behalf of the provincial government.
It has been reported that Scrooby was murdered at his home in Norwood and his body dumped in a manhole a fortnight ago. A Zimbabwean man living in Scrooby’s yard was arrested in connection with the murder.
The late Scrooby had an illustrious teaching career spanning 25 years and his passing came at the time while he was teaching at John Orr Technical High School in Auckland Park.
He taught mechanical technology and technology and provincial education government bemoaned the loss life and praised Scrooby for his work:
“In his work he always showed dedication to the vision of ensuring that every learner does well at school and leaves our institutions with the knowledge, skills and qualifications that will give them the best chance of success in adult life.”
