MEC condemns mutilation, rape and murder of children and women

The Department of Health and Social Development in Limpopo has learnt with a great deal of outrage about the horrific mutilation and murder of a nine year old girl Mutshidzi Ramanyimi in Thoyandou, Limpopo.

MEC Dr Norman Mabasa offers his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mutshidzi. “Violence against children and women is on the rise and is a brutal manifestation of wider abhorrence and discrimination against women and this should not be accepted in our communities” said Mabasa.

This comes just weeks after a two year old was raped and left for dead at Pulaneng village, Tzaneen. The department is grossly concerned at the increased number of mutilations, rape and murder of children and women and would like to highlight the urgent need for communities to stand together to prevent these heinous crimes against women.

Social Workers are available on request to provide counselling for rape victims and their families by calling MEC’s Hotline on 0800 91 91 91.
