MEC Maine brings tangible solutions to water and sanitation challenges in Madibeng
Brits – All boreholes that are either malfunctioning or not energised will be refurbished and energised as a matter of urgency in order to restore the water supply to the residents of Letlhabile and adjacent townships in Madibeng local municipality.
Also as a matter of urgency, the water tankers will be used as a short term intervention to supply the residents with water, whilst plans are to increase the number of boreholes in the area as well as fast track the building of a water treatment plant, which are underway. Moreover, the water and sanitation function will now be performed by both the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima and the National Department of Water and Sanitation. Magalies Water has been appointed as an implementing agent to ensure proper water reticulation in the area.
These are intervention measures announced on past Sunday by MEC Collen Maine at a community meeting in Letlhabile. MEC Maine also announced the immediate termination of a contract with an electricity supply company appointed by the municipality. He also acknowledged the fact that the Hartebeesport Dam is covered by algae and assured the resident that the matter will also receive immediate attention. “In all the work that will be done in Letlhabile and other areas, the locals must benefit”, he said.
He also called for the re-opening of the municipal satellite office in Letlhabile in order to deal with complaints from the residents over the municipal billing system. He said officials will also be send to work from the municipality to deal with issues of title deeds. He condemned the usage of private companies for refuse removal and majority of services.
