MEC China Dodovu condemns attack on a resident

The MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, China Dodovu wishes to convey his message of support to the community of Lomanyaneng and specifically to the anonymous author of an article that was published in “The Mail” dated 17 January 2013 with  the heading ‘I was almost killed because of lack of water”.

According to the letter, the author alleges that she was almost raped whilst being strangled to almost death at her house at the crack of dawn while trying to fetch water before it got cut off and was rescued by his neighbour who heard her screaming for help.

MEC Dodovu said that this is a very saddening situation indeed it is even more heartening for those who are subjected to any form of gender based violent act.

“The most vulnerable in society are harmed by barbaric perpetrators who disregard human life and dignity. We need to stand as one to eliminate those responsible of these heinous crimes by ensuring that they face the wrath of our criminal justice system”, he said.

“This is a serious call for concern and it definitely need to be brought to the attention of the municipality to come up with possible intervention as we remain resolute in our resolve as government that service delivery to our people notwithstanding the fact that free basic services such as water is at the top of our priorities.

I will take upon myself to ensure that this matter is attended to by the responsible Municipality”, he said.
