MEC Capa welcomes Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency new CEO

The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Zoleka Capa is proud to announce to members of the media that Mr Thozi Gwanya, who has a vast background in issues of rural development, has been appointed as the new CEO of Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA).

In welcoming Mr Gwanya, the MEC said she believed his expertise will assist in the economic development of Province with the special focus of ensure rural people are active participants in poverty eradication and rural development.

The ECRDA was formed by amalgamating Eastern Cape Rural Finance Corporation (ERFC) - which was supporting farmers through its Uvimba and Vulithuba schemes – and Asigisa-EC that used to plough for communal farmers. MEC Capa believes the amalgamation will promote better co-ordination and cost effectiveness.

She said Gwanya was entrusted with ensuring that the existence of ECRDA will see our people without a physical address, street or postal address or immovable property for collateral purposes having access to micro loans

With his expertise, Gwanya will ensure the ECRDA will provide not only financial support for infrastructure development in a rural space but promote skills development so that the rural communities participate during construction, and maintain such infrastructure as post care.

ECRDA will also aggressively attend to adult education especially towards textile industries, home economics/ bakery cooking, building and construction.
