MEC Bopape congratulates SAFA and wishes Mashaba well

Gauteng MEC for Sport Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Molebatsi Bopape has congratulated SAFA for appointing Shakes Mashaba as the new coach of Bafana Bafana. Following speculations, even moments before the announcement that a foreign coach was to be appointed, the association surprised a lot by doing what many believe is the right decision.

“We’d like to commend not only SAFA but the new coach in efforts to rebuild the senior team. Shakes has proved himself worthy of the appointment by being consistently successful in leading National teams including Bafana in his first stint as the head coach in 2002. He also has been successful with the under 23s and recently the under 20s”.

Added MEC Bopape: “We’d like to wish Mashaba much more success in his endeavour to build a formidable team that will start instilling fear in their opponents and restoring the confidence of the nation”.

Congratulations to Highlands Park

Meanwhile, the MEC has congratulated Gauteng’s Highlands Park for gaining promotion into SAFA’s first division thereby earning a chance to compete for a position into the PSL. This they did by winning the second division playoffs in the ABC Motsepe league. This brings two the number of Gauteng teams participating in the first division with another being Jomo Cosmos.

“It is always gratifying when a Gauteng team does well and congratulations to the team for living up to Gauteng being the Home of Champions”. We now have more an added team in the second division and we hope we’ll see more in the future”.
