Youth Outreach Programme to touch lives of Murraysburg youth
The Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD) is hosting 138 young people from all over Murraysburg, for a 2-day Youth Outreach Programme.
Murraysburg is a rural community in the Eden Karoo Region with a total population of just over 5000 residents. Young people in this community have access to a primary and high school, and little else.
The Youth Outreach will be held over two sessions, targeting two groups of youth; namely, 78 learners close to completing secondary education (Grade 11’s), and 60 young people who are ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ (NEETs).
Each session will give the young people an opportunity to map their community, looking at the challenges they face. They’ll then get the opportunity to workshop possible solutions and interventions, appropriate to the circumstances.
Each of the sessions will also address some of psycho-emotional aspects of the youth, looking at their self-development (self-esteem & life skills), with sessions being facilitated by youth development specialists and a social worker.
