Today, the Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz handed over graduation certificates to 272 participants of the Community Chest’s Capacity Building Training course (CBT).
The CBT programme is an initiative of the Community Chest which provides extensive training aimed at capacitating NGOs. The Community Chest facilitated a total of 15 workshops for 2015 in the metro region of Cape Town and rural regions of Caledon, Vredendal, Worcester and Mossel Bay, which saw 580 graduate overall.
The course covered;
- Fundraising for Beginners,
- Volunteer Management,
- Governance Development,
- Media Workshop,
- Emerging leaders Programme,
- Financial Literacy,
- Youth Project Management.
Minister Fritz commended the work of the Community Chest, and mentioned similar initiatives driven by the department: “We have exceeded our targets for the last financial year, capacitating 20 more organizations than the target of 600. This also extends to the number of NGOs the department assisted with NPO registration, from a target of 600, to 1059 (an additional 459).”
The department will continue to support the NGO sector. With our funding to them having broken the R1-billion mark for the first time this financial year, we look forward to working with the 2000 NGOs partnering with the department.
