MEC Alan Winde on Workers' Day

MEC Alan Winde's Workers' Day message to Western Cape residents

In celebration of Workers' Day, Alan Winde, Western Cape MEC of Economic Opportunities, thanked the province’s two million employed people for making a contribution to our economy, which continues to grow at a higher rate than the national economy.

MEC Winde said: “Today we celebrate all workers across our province. These individuals, working together, are helping us build a strong agricultural sector, a place which is globally attractive for call centres and finance institutions, and an appealing destination for tourists.

“Each of our hard-working residents are contributing tax toward new infrastructure – including roads, schools and hospitals – so that our goods can get to market, so that we can teach our children in environments which are fit for learning and treat patients in better facilities.

"The Western Cape Government's number one strategic goal is the creation of opportunities for economic growth and jobs. Through cutting red tape and driving key sectors we will ensure that our province remains a leading destination to invest and work.

"My vision is that every resident, who has the will and the support, is able to make a valuable contribution to taking the Western Cape forward and establishing our province as a growing economic hub.”
