MEC Alan Winde calls businesses to participate in Red Tape Reduction Unit’s Biz challenge

Western Cape businesses are being invited to have their say on reducing red tape in the licencing of events and permits application process. Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, is calling on all businesses to participate in the Red Tape Reduction Unit’s Biz Challenge.

“We would like businesses to comment on the processes around obtaining permits and licences for music, sports, health, academic and other events.

“All comments will be reviewed so we can design solutions to resolve blockages in our systems. We want these processes to run as smoothly as possible so that businesses can get on with what they do best – growing our economy and creating jobs.”

Minister Winde said events were important economic drivers, contributing in excess of R1 billion to the Western Cape economy annually.

“Reducing red tape has the potential to increase the size of this contribution.”

All comments and solutions will be published anonymously. The closing date is 30 June. This the first phase of the Biz Challenge. The following rounds will call for comments on the visa regulations and the tourism road signage application process.

Next week, on 29 June, Minister Winde will host a media briefing to table a status update on the impact of the unit’s interventions and how we have reduced red tape for residents across the Western Cape. At the briefing, Minister Winde will also provide feedback on the comments receiving during the Biz Challenge.
