The Department is holding stakeholder briefing sessions on Public Employment Services (PES) with the aim to request employers to recruit through the Department’s Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database. The stakeholder briefing sessions are held today at Graff Reinet, Janseville and tomorrow (13th) at Willowmore.
ESSA is a system that registers workseekers in the database so that employers avail opportunities to be matched automatically in the system. This system assists employers to match the candidates they require and the best candidate is matched for the job. The Department is mandated by the Skills development Act of 1997 in terms of Public employment services.
Ms Hannah Makoba, The Honourable Mayor of Graff Reinet, has thus committed herself that the Municipality will work together with the Department in assisting unemployed registering in our database and also recruiting through our database.” The word must go out there to communities that workseekers must register in the DoL database”. “My son registered in the DoL database and he was called to interviews and hired on a contract basis” she said, “Some people might say he is unemployed but at least he is doing something” she testified in the gathering.
Public Employment Services is responsible for the registration of workseekers in ESSA database, career counselling, referrals and placement of workseekers.” The briefing sessions provide a platform for Department of Labour to brief employers about services of Public employment services with the aim that they will bring in opportunities” said Mr Lutholi responsible for the section.” Companies like Daimler Crysler, Boxer, Buirmasters, Villa Reinet B&B have started recruiting through our database and abandoned their own recruitment strategies. We appeal to another companies to come forward and follow suit” he added.
“The mandate of the Department is that of contributing to employment creation therefore the Department is requesting all employers to recruit from our database to increase available opportunities. Therefore, workseekers will definitely be placed in jobs” said Mr. Bheki Gama, the Chief Director for Provincial Operations in the Eastern Cape.
