Two Zimbabwean nationals aged between 39 and 43 were arrested today Wednesday, 23 May 2012 in the morning, near Mankweng.
Police members on routine patrols, spotted a vehicle speeding and skipping a red robot. They gave chase and succeeded in cornering the vehicle. They searched the vehicle and discovered a total of 886 boxes of counterfeit cigarettes to the value of more than R50 000. An investigation is under way to determine the origin and destination thereof.
The suspects will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Thursday) on charges of the possession of counterfeit cigarettes.
The Station Commander of the Mankweng Police Station, Brigadier Alex Seopa, praised the members for their dedication and observance and warned that suspects thinking that they will get away with criminal acts in the Mankweng area are in for a huge surprise. “Police in Mankweng will leave no stone unturned to make sure that criminals are arrested and placed behind bars. We are also appealing to members of the community to assist the Police in their endeavours to prevent crime and provide information to the Police about criminal activities in their area,” he said.
