Manana visit the crime scene of police murders in Amersfoort

Mpumalanga Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Sibongile Manana today visit the scene where three police Amersfoort police officers were shot and killed yesterday, Sunday, 25 April 2010 while doing their normal crime prevention patrol by unknown gunmen who were suspected to rob the local bank.

The gunmen refused to be searched and they ran away with a Toyota Conquest. They however came back and are believed to have fired at police officers before they could come out of the police van.

Two constables Mr T P Maroga (30) and Mr JL Molefe (32) died on the scene while a reservist Mr LL Ngwenya (24) died later while going to the hospital.

Manana will be accompanied by a team from her department and Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Thulani Ntobela is also to visit the scene later today.

Meanwhile Manana has condemned the killing of the police officers however she has hailed as heroes who died while preventing crime. She has sent condolences to the family of the deceased, their friends and colleagues.
