Man dies in N12 crash outside Wolmaranstadt in North West

A man whose age is unknown died in a crash involving a car, a bakkie and a truck on the N12 between Wolmaranstadt and Klerksdorp in the North West Province on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred about 10 kilo metres outside Wolmaranstadt at around 8h30. It is alleged that an Opel Astra that was from Klerksdorp heading towards Wolmaranstadt side swept a Hyundai light delivery vehicle and collided head-on with a truck that following it.

A 34 year old man who was driving the Nissan Diesel truck was seriously injured while a passenger who was with him and two occupants of the bakkie were not injured.

The road was partially closed and rescue teams had to use the Jaws- of- Life to free the body of the motorist from the wreckage and secure medical waste from the truck. Fatigue is suspected to have caused the accident.

Meanwhile two other motorists lost their lives in two unrelated accidents around the Derby /Rustenburg –Venterdorp road on Monday due to suspected speeding and a tyre burst.

Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving and have observed that in one of the accidents a 23 year old driver was thrown out of his vehicle after the lost control of his vehicle as he was not wearing his seatbelt.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison ,Ms Desbo Mohono wishes to convey her condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in the crashes and also wish the injured road users a speedy recovery.

MEC Mohono appeals to motorists to reduce speeding, to stop and rest every 200 kilometres or after every two hours they on the road because fatigue is a killer that continues to claim the lives of many travellers on public roads.
