A man was arrested for clocking 160 km/h on a 60km/h speeding zone on the D108 Buffelspoort-Marikana road in the North West Province on Monday afternoon.
The 33-year-old man was driving an Opel Astra sedan from Buffelspoort towards Marikana when he clocked the speed camera that was set up by members of the North West Provincial Road Traffic management Unit at 5:05pm.
The unlicensed man said to be a motor mechanic was taken for a blood sample extraction at Job Shimankana Tabane Provincial Hospital in Rustenburg after a breathalyser test confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was locked up at the Marikana Police Station and is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates court on Tuesday to answer to charges of speeding, drunken driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driver license.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has vowed that provincial road traffic management authorities would sustain zero tolerance enforcement operations against lawlessness in order to reduce road accidents on public roads.
