Man arrested with R8 million worth of drugs

An undercover operation by members of the Hawks and Crime Intelligence yielded the desired results last night (28 May 2012) when a 39 year old Nigerian suspect was arrested in Cape Town. The suspect has been the focus point of investigators for a period of time while evidence of his contraband dealings was gathered.

The highlight of the operation was an undercover deal in Adderley Street Cape Town which led to the arrest of the perpetrator. He had 2.1kg tik in his possession.

His arrest was followed by more searches at his flat in Somerset Street Green Point, his club in Darling Street Cape Town, and another apartment in Buitekant Street Cape Town which we believe was utilised as the manufacturing premises for the drugs. The searches resulted in the seizure of more drugs, comprising the following:

  • 2 kg of Heroine – value R600 000
  • 3 kg of Cocaine – value R900 000
  • 4 kg of Methamphetamine – value R 1200
  • 20 kg Drum of Ephidrene –value R800 000
  • 1 kg of Rocks (Moon) value R300 000
  • 500 grams of Methamphetamine – value R150 000
  • 1 kg of Methamphetamine – value R150 000
  • 5 kg of Ephidrine – value – R200 000
  • 2 kg Cocaine – value R600 000
  • 2 kg Methamphetamine – value R600 000
  • Methamphetamine to the value of R1,5 million (seized during the undercover deal)

Investigations led police to another Table View residence where cash to the tune of R250 000 was confiscated. This money is believed to be profits from drug deals by the suspect.

We regard the arrest of the suspect and the confiscation of his drugs as a significant blow to the Western Cape drug trade, which enjoys a high position on our priority list.
