A suspect has been arrested during South African Police Service (SAPS) operation at a plot near Hartbeespoort Dam, in the North West. Acting on intelligence information on Tuesday; police searched the premises and seized twenty firearms and over 700 rounds of ammunition.
This was a joint operation between the Hawks of the SAPS, the Central Firearms Register and the security industry regulator.
The arrested suspect is a man in his fifties. He is also an owner of a security company. Investigations are on-going to determine the exact number of unlicensed weapons seized. The suspect is in custody, pending his appearance in the Brits Magistrate Court on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He is scheduled to make an appearance on Thursday morning.
