A Tanzanian national was arrested for being in possession of 39 capsules of cocaine at an inter-provincial multi-purpose roadblock, on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway, on the North West-Gauteng border on Friday afternoon.
Police found the drugs wrapped in plastic and sellotape in the man’s leather jacket. They searched his jacket after realising that he was jumpy. The man in his 30’s, was in a taxi that was from Brits towards Pretoria, when the taxi was stopped near Dewildt. He was detained at the Mmakau Police Station and is expected to appear at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate Court on Monday.
Fifty-one other motorists were issued with notices for various traffic violations and another motorists arrested for driving without a driver’s license at the road block that included members of the North West Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit, Gauteng Transport, Cross Border Road Transport and South African Police Service (SAPS) Mmakau.
The arrests happens barely three days after the Mmakau community raised concerns about proliferation of drugs, allegedly distributed by foreign nationals during Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa’s Public Participation outreach campaign held in Mmakau.
