Maloyi declares war against traffic offenders

In his address to the newly recruited traffic officers, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi declared a war to the road law offenders.

“We are going to show no mercy to criminals and road law offenders to ensure that our people’s lives are safe. We cannot continue losing our loved ones on daily basis.”

MEC Maloyi commanded the newly appointed officers to serve with diligence, dignity and commitment. “We need man and woman who will ensure that our people’s lives are safe and with you, we are going to increase visibility and make an impact on our roads. You must show no mercy against these criminals and road law offenders,” said Maloyi.

The MEC committed to resource the newly appointed traffic officers to make their work easier to deal with hard-core criminals. “You are going to deal with these hard-core criminals and you must be well capacitated,” he said.

MEC said there will be more joined operations between South African Police Services and traffic authorities across the province. “North West must never be a playground for criminals,” he warned.

During his budget policy, MEC Maloyi committed to recruit about 100 traffic officers and deploy them across the province to ensure road compliance and reducing the number of road accidents and fatalities.

Currently the province has about 390 traffic officers at operational level and it intends to reach the target of about 900 by 2015. He said this will be in line to reach the required target of 1 200 officers by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

The newly recruited female officer who is also increasing the number of women in the formerly male dominated field, Nthabiseng Lobelo committed to serve with pride and honesty. She said being part of traffic law enforcement in the province gives her the responsibility to contribute in curbing the ever increasing fatalities in the main roads of the province. “I am determined to save lives, prevent accidents and enforce traffic laws to all road users, said Lobelo in a jubilant mood.
