Makgoe conveys condolences after untimely death of three learners in Memel

The Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe sends condolences to parents, relatives, friends of three Memel Primary School learners who passed away yesterday after being crushed by a mini- lorry waiting for their transport to school.

The driver of the mini-lorry allegedly lost control and crushed into the four learners and one survived. Learners were between the ages of six and seven and three of them were in grade R and one was in grade 1.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to all who are affected in this tragedy, and pray that they will be comforted in their grief”; said MEC Makgoe.

Three of the learners were orphans from Youth Care Centre in Memel. The fourth learner involved in the accident survived and was released yesterday from Vrede Hospital. MEC Makgoe wishes her a speedy recovery.

The memorial service for the late learners will be held on Thursday, 24 May 2012. Senior officials will visit the centre to pledge the condolences to the bereaved community on behalf of the department.

The orphanage and the school are still finalising the funeral arrangements.
