Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile has expressed shock and sadness at the passing of the runners who were hit by a car while preparing for the Soweto Marathon taking place next month.
"We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. We appeal to motorists to take extra care especially where pedestrians are involved. The incident is tragic and unfortunate especially that we are working hard in promoting active citizenry in sport and encouraging communities to partner with us in promoting healthy lifestyles " said Maile
Maile has re-affirmed the need to ensure that conditions for sport men and women are characterised by safety and do not hinder the performance of athletes.
