Mahikeng embarks on rehabilitation of roads

Mahikeng Local Municipality in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Transport and the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has embarked in a fully-fledged programme of rehabilitating roads in the Mahikeng area. This programme is as a result of the pronouncement on the appalling state of roads mainly the resurfacing potholes. Affected areas include Units 2, 13, 14, Montshioa, Danville, Golfview, Riviera Park and Mahikeng Central Business District (CBD).

Four contractors have been appointed to undertake the repairing function on those routes and they resumed work following community meetings where the communities were introduced to the contractors. Jobs expected on this rehabilitation programme will create relief for the communities affected as each contractor is expected to hire labour.

This includes amongst others the selection of 4 Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) who have been selected by their respective communities (from wards 10, 29, 9 and 7). The programme is expected to be concluded in all roads by the end of May 2014.
